WE WATCHED FROZEN AND IT WAS EPIC

Being On Dit editors has its perks and being sent to watch the hit Broadway musical Frozen by the fabulous The Peach & Pineapple Co. is definitely one of them. The show was everything we could have imagined and more. Hosted at the iconic Adelaide Festival Theatre, we were blown away by the production and all the ways it used the venue to create an icy winter wonderland. The lighting, the music and the props transported the entire audience into the magical kingdom of Arendelle as we all became humble citizens watching the grand adventure of Ana (performed by Courtney Monsma) and Elsa (performed by Jemma Rix) unfold.
The show started off with young Elsa and Ana (performed by Amya Mollison and Hunter Ribeiro) at the peak of their friendship, both in innocent awe of Elsa’s powers. From there, the classic tale unfolded as the two young women navigate their sisterhood, their royalty and their self-love. The story brought out all the right emotions in the audience as collective gasps, laughter and ‘awwwww’ reverberated in the entire theatre.
We see why this show turned into the hit Broadway Musical that it is. With sweet messages about believing in yourself, expressing and accepting love and conquering your fears, audiences of all ages have something precious to take away from this experience. I know my inner child felt well-nourished.
As Courtney Monsma’s angelic voice gripped the audience in amazement, the heartbreaking yet strikingly harmonious voice of Jemma Rix further guided them through the heights of emotions experienced in ‘Frozen the Musical’. Amongst the glistening costumes and realistically icy set courtesy of Christopher Oram, were the beautifully crafted puppets by Michael Curry. Curry’s puppets included Sven the reindeer, performed by the magically animated Lochie McIntyre and Olaf, whose performer Matt Lee bought an energetic, warm, and yet refreshing breath to the journey of Frozen. Along with the sparkling set, costumes and gifted acting, however, was the synchronised, energetic and beautiful dancing of the cast choreographed by Rob Ashford. Yet to be mentioned, however, was the jaw-dropping performance of Hans (Thomas McGuane) and Kristoff (Sean Sinclair) whose warm voices and energetic dancing captured the audience from start to finish.
