University of Adelaide endorses Black Lives Matter
In an email from acting Vice-Chancellor Mike Brookes, the university endorsed the “broad principles of the Black Lives Matter movement.”
Brookes noted that the University is “committed to the continued pursuit of equity by contributing to closing the gap of disadvantage faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people both in our University and in the broader community.”
Acknowledging that the University campuses lie on the ancestral homelands of the Kaurna people, the acting VC detailed how the Uni is continuing their work in repatriating Aboriginal remains currently in their possession, and that they are “now fully coming to terms with the ramifications of the past and its deep and lasting impact on Indigenous peoples and communities.”
He further affirmed that the Uni stands against all manifestations of racism.
