At 4pm this afternoon the University of Adelaide announced to students that they had a new Chancellor.
Catherine Branson AC QC is a former judge of the Federal Court of Australia and has served the University as its Deputy Chancellor since 2017, having joined University Council in 2013. She will be the 17th Chancellor of the University.
The email sent out to students noted, among other things, that she was the first female Crown Solicitor in Australia and in 2018 was awarded the ‘Companion of Australia’ for “eminent service to the judiciary and to the law as an advocate for human rights and civil liberties, to judicial administration and professional development, and to governance roles in tertiary education.”
The Chancellorship has been vacant since May of this year upon the sudden resignation of former Chancellor Kevin Scarce AC.
