University breaks silence over senior management exodus
Words by Nicholas Birchall
The University of Adelaide has today issued a statement suggesting that the departure of Chancellor Kevin Scarce and the indefinite leave taken by Vice- Chancellor Peter Rathjen has nothing to do with “the financial health of the university or the impact of COVID-19”.
This comes after it was reported by the Australian this morning that the “pair were forced out by the council”, after what was described as a “row” during a special meeting of the University council.
The university has further stated that they are “in a sound financial position … [with] no risk of the university becoming insolvent”.
The university is expected to make a further statement in the coming days.
More to come as this story unfolds.
