In a short email from newly-appointed Chancellor Branson to University of Adelaide staff and students, she detailed how the University Council had accepted Rathjen’s resignation, citing “ill health”.

This comes after months of speculation following Rathjen’s indefinite leave amidst an ongoing ICAC investigation surrounding allegations of “improper conduct” on the part of the VC.

The Chancellor further detailed that the University will begin its search for a new Vice-Chancellor in “due course”.
